4 things to avoid when purchasing construction software

Don’t settle

As you begin to implement new technology at your construction business, the selection process can be daunting. There are dozens of options with many different features that all may in some way work for you.

So how do you choose?

We’ve written a number of blogs about why you need a CRM technology at your business and what features you should look for, so today we’re mixing it up. Here is what you should avoid when purchasing construction software.

  1. Not doing your research: If you’re reading this article and others like it, you probably have this one covered. But just in case… don’t settle on the first option you see because you think the price is right or one feature really stands out. Do multiple demos and dig deep into the platform to make sure it can do everything you need it to.
  2. Selecting software that’s too overwhelming: Technology difficulty typically ranges from beginner to advanced. Think about yourself and your staff – what will you all need to efficiently utilize the technology? Even if the features are spectacular, if you think it will be too overwhelming and it won’t get used, you may want to look into something a little easier.
  3. Lengthy implementation process: We don’t want you to just choose the simplest option, but definitely remember to ask what the implementation process will entail. If you’re a small construction company, chances are you don’t have a tech guru on site. You don’t want to get roped into a platform that you can’t implement or one that will take months. Find the one that fits within your time frame, budget, and skill set.
  4. No vendor support: Having a good customer support team on your side is crucial to the success of your new technology. Find out the way your software vendor likes to communicate, whether it’s through phone inquiries or online chat. If you prefer direct communication, then choose the company that gives you that option. When implementing a new technology, you’re going to want all the help you can get.

The most important thing to remember when selecting your CRM software is this: Don’t settle. You will find the one that gives you everything you need to help you run your business more efficiently.
